Shelly's Shares: The Birth of Moms Who Flourish: A Journey to Self-Care and Community
Your cup needs filling first. It's not selfish—it's essential. This powerful message forms the foundation of Shelly's heartfelt discussion about Moms Who Flourish, a community born from her twin passions of motherhood and wellness.
Drawing from 26 years as a mother and over 40 years in the wellness industry, Shelly shares the evolution of her vision to create a safe, nurturing space where mothers can prioritize their health without guilt. She walks us through how a simple idea blossomed into coaching relationships, mentorship opportunities, and transformative live events bringing mothers together to learn, connect, and grow. The upcoming October 4th gathering in Southern California promises expert speakers addressing women's health, financial wellness, toxin reduction, and more—all designed to equip mothers with practical tools for immediate implementation.
Particularly moving is Shelly's compassionate focus on mothers navigating transitions, especially those approaching or experiencing empty nesting. This phase often challenges a woman's identity and purpose, making it the perfect moment to reclaim wellness practices that may have been set aside during active parenting years. The message resonates clearly: when mothers fill their own cups first, they have more to give those they love. This isn't about selfishness—it's about sustainability. It's about flourishing rather than merely surviving, and bringing that vibrant energy back to your family and purpose.
Ready to prioritize your wellness journey without sacrificing your commitment to family? Connect with Shelly through the contact information in the show notes, or register for the October event if you're in Southern California. Your journey to becoming a Mom Who Flourishes begins with a single step—take it today.

With 35 plus years as a health and wellness professional, a retired college professor, a speaker, and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I certainly have lots to share. To bring in guests who can share their journeys so that we can all learn together while making an impact on the health, the wellness, and lives of all of you, our listeners. The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life and that you will, we all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives full of energy, happiness, and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today. Hello, my friends. Welcome back to Words of Wellness. This is our Shelly's Shares episode, and I want to welcome you here today. It is a new week. This episode comes out on Monday, so happy Monday to you all. I am sharing a little bit today about a personal journey with something that I have coming up very soon. And it was placed on my heart about two or three years ago to start to build a community, to combine my two biggest passions, motherhood and wellness. Being a mom for over 26 years has been just the highlight of my life and the the biggest reward. And it just continues to bless to bless me. And I'm just so, so grateful to be a mom. And there are so many rewards, and along the way, there are some milestones and sometimes challenges, right? And I knew in my heart that I could serve other moms in this area. And also with, dare I say, for actually for over 40 years now, close to 50, actually, 50 years, which really is crazy to me. No, no, no, 40 years. 40 years in the wellness industry. So I wanted to combine my two passions. That was what was placed on my heart to create a community that would include coaching, mentorship, live in-person events, and it would grow from there. And to be honest, it took me a little while to come up with a name that really fit what I was setting out to accomplish for moms who would come into my community. So the name Moms Who Flourish finally came to me. And wouldn't you know the crazy thing is, I don't know if it's just because you start to see, it's like when you see a car you want to get, like a red car, and then you start to see it everywhere, right? I started to, once I decided on the name, I started seeing the word flourish around quite often. Now I I took that as a sign that I had picked a pretty great name, right? And I still see the word and I still hear the word and I just love it. And it just symbolizes to me exactly what it says, like just flourishing, like just opening up like a flower and and becoming your best, your best self full of energy and joy, and just having a vitality for life. And that is really truly what I want to help instill into other mamas. And so momsu flourish was born. And when I first started, I thought I wanted to do this, and I'm still doing this, but I thought I wanted to start with coaching and mentorship. I really do love working with others one-on-one, especially moms. And then it hit me one day, and I realized that I wanted to have an in-person event. I wanted to bring moms together in a community where they could be in person, connect live at a live event, be able to converse and get to know each other. We can hug on each other. And many of you who are listening, you know the benefit to being in the room with others, to being in a live event. And that's really what was placed on my heart. And you know, I the first time I put on an event, I just told myself I just wanted to get one done and under my belts. I wasn't really having any expectations, but I knew what I wanted it to look like. I knew that I wanted to bring in various speakers who could speak on various topics related to wellness. I knew that I wanted to open it up to vendors and sponsors. I knew that I wanted to bring in lunch for the for the attendees and the everyone present. And I knew that I wanted it to be a safe space for moms to come together to grow and connect. And so my first event was in October of 2024. And I'll never forget, as I was driving to the event that morning, I just had such this joy in my heart where I knew this was meant to happen. This is what I meant to do. I I just I it's you know, it's one of those things that's hard to describe, but I just felt so happy in my heart that it was happening. And we had a great, great day, a great event. And I knew honestly, even the night before, when I was spending hours prep preparing, I knew that initially I thought I'm going to do this event once a year. But the night before, I was so excited. I thought, gosh, I don't want to wait for a whole year to do this again. So lo and behold, we had our event in October, and I scheduled my second event in February of 2025. And amazing things happened. We increased the number of speakers and vendors. I had it in a at a different venue that was just beautiful and perfect. And it was just an amazing day. It just touched my heart so much. And incredible, incredible moms in that room that day. And so after that weekend, I knew that I wanted to move forward with having the event in the fall. And part of that is I just feel like the fall is a fresh, fresh time. When I had the event in February, it was a little bit a little stressful coming off, just coming off the holidays. But it still went went great. And what I decided to do was to plan another event for October, like I did last year. And part of the reason for the fall also for me personally is spring's schedule gets very, very full with my boys and their baseball schedules. And I find that I keep my schedule open because you just never know. I know like the game schedules, but sometimes something might change, and you just never know what might fall on a weekend. And so I always hesitate to commit to anything in the spring. So here we are, almost a year later from our first event, and we are having our event coming up Saturday, October 4th. So depending on when you listen to this episode, it will be right before or possibly soon after. But I want to just say to all of you who might be listening before, if any of you moms are in Southern California, I highly, highly encourage you to join us. There is a link in the show notes. It is an early bird registration link, and I'm going to leave it there for my listeners. And I will tell you, this is an event like none other. I have been to a lot of events. I see a lot of events that are put on. And this brings professionals in the in the wellness space. It brings other moms who have had personal journeys. It brings special moms into the room. It brings those vendors and sponsors who want to support one another and other moms. And it is a day, like I said earlier, of growth. There is some information and education. And there is also the sharing of personal stories, personal journeys, moms opening up their hearts. We have a couple different activities planned that really just help moms really get into their own hearts and think about their goals, their dreams, what is it they want to accomplish in their lives, in addition to being moms. And I will say it's it just it fills my heart. And I think about the speakers who we are going to have. Various topics are going to be shared, just to name a few. We have a speaker who's going to share on women's health and longevity. We have a speaker sharing on financial wellness. I will be speaking on toxins and ways to reduce our exposure to help us live healthier lives for ourselves and our families. We have a variety of topics. That's just to name a few. And then, like I said, we're going to have a couple of different panels and moms sharing their journeys and their own personal stories. I have a fitness panel, so I will have a few fitness professionals answering questions for all the moms. And it'll just be a very special day. So again, for any of you who are hearing this and you're close to Southern California, I really encourage you to join us. I promise you, it's going to be a transformational day, uh, very inspirational, energizing, and you will leave feeling amazing, equipped with tips to apply right away to your own personal wellness and your family's wellness. You will make some new friends and connections. Who knows? Maybe your bestie, your new bestie will be in the room, right? All really great, great things. And so I wanted to just talk about it a little bit and kind of how it came to be. And another part of this for me personally is to expand with my mentorship and work with moms, especially those who are empty nesters or becoming empty nesters. I have a really big heart for moms going through it. I've gone through it and I completely understand and relate to the experience. And for some, the trans transition can be challenging. And it can affect a person's identity a little bit, right? You're going through a completely new transition, a different phase of life. And also for some, and this is another reason why I created Moms Who Flourish. For some moms, we put our wellness and our self-care and our health on the back burner or on the sidelines. So I want to help moms put that back as a priority. And that's a big, big mission of Moms Who Flourish, helping all of you moms, empowering you to put your health, your wellness, and your self-care as a priority. And do so from a faith-based background with family as a priority. All of that is tied in for sure. This is not a selfish endeavor in any way, shape, or form. This is me telling you and giving you the permission to take care of you. Because once you take care of you and fill your cup up first, then you can fill up the cups of others. And that is ultimately what it's all about. So I really hope you will join us Saturday, October 4th. And if you live afar, you can plan for our next event, which will most likely be the following year. In addition to that, for any of you moms who feel like any of this resonates with you, I encourage you to reach out to me and let's let's jump on a quick call and see if my mentorship would be something that would help you and would be beneficial. I am here to just help moms again put their self-care as a priority, get some clarity around their wellness program, their day-to-day routine that will help them feel and look their best, not only just physically, but feel their best mentally and emotionally. I want to be there to guide you and to support you in the different phases that we go through with motherhood. And if you feel like you're going through a challenging phase, I am here for you. I am here for you. And even if you've gone through it already and you would like to learn more or you need some clarity again for your own personal wellness, fitness, nutrition, I am here for you. That is what I will all that's what my mentorship will encompass all of that. Again, it's the wellness and the motherhood journey combined to help all of you to empower, is a better word. Empower us all to be the best that we can be as moms and as women, and to experience the joys and experience the passions and fulfill the purposes that God has put in our hearts. And sometimes it really helps to have an outsider or another person speak life into you and to see your purpose and to help you with that. And that's what I am here to do. So I hope you find value in this. Again, this episode is really directly um related to moms, all my moms out there. And I I really encourage you to reach out if you have questions and you'd like to have more information about my events or mentorship. Please reach out. Please message me on Instagram or Facebook. My contact information is in the show notes. And again, if you are local to Southern California, I would love to see you, meet you, and give you a big hug on Saturday, October 4th.
