Shelly's Shares: Gratitude, Growth, and Getting in the Right Rooms, A Few Lessons From Powerhouse Women
Ever feel like you're drowning in noise, unable to hear your own thoughts? Join me as I share powerful insights from my recent experience at the Powerhouse Women event, where being surrounded by purpose-driven women reaffirmed my mission to create supportive environments for moms seeking wellness and fulfillment.
What truly resonated was seeing mothers with three-month-old babies pursuing their dreams without waiting for "someday." These women embodied the truth that when a dream is placed on your heart, it's there for a reason. Their example reminds us all—regardless of gender or circumstance—that with intention and community, we can honor both our calling and our current responsibilities.
The transformative power of gratitude emerged as a cornerstone practice. As licensed therapist Brittainy Noel shared, focusing on what's positive effectively drowns out negativity, shifting us from mere survival to genuine thriving. Meanwhile, Ed Mylet's provocative question—"What if this was your last time?"—serves as a powerful reminder to appreciate ordinary moments we might otherwise rush through. From morning gratitude practices to putting down our phones during family time, these small shifts create profound changes in our experience of life. The journey itself deserves our attention and appreciation, not just the destination.
Whether you're building a business, raising a family, or simply seeking more presence in your everyday life, this episode offers practical wisdom for living with intention. Take a moment today to breathe deeply, practice gratitude, and fully engage with what matters most. Your wellbeing isn't a luxury—it's essential to living your most fulfilled life. What small step will you take today to honor your wellness journey?

With all the noise going on in the world, it's easy to not take the time in the quiet time to really sit with our thoughts and our visions, our own personal dreams.
Speaker 1:It's easy to get caught up in everything going on around us and not really take that moment to sit and be in thought about what we each desire to do in our lives.
Speaker 1:Do you get confused by all of the information that bombard us every day on ways to improve our overall health and our overall wellness? Do you often feel stuck, unmotivated or struggle to reach your wellness goals? Do you have questions as to what exercises you should be doing, what foods you should or should not be eating, how to improve your overall emotional and mental well-being? Hello everyone, I am so excited to welcome you to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelly Jeffries and I will be your host. My goal is to answer these questions and so much more to share tips, education and inspiration around all of the components of wellness through solo and guest episodes. With 35 plus years as a health and wellness professional, a retired college professor, a speaker and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I certainly have lots to share. However, my biggest goal and inspiration in doing this podcast is to share the wellness stories of others with you, to bring in guests who can share their journeys, so that we can all learn together while making an impact on the health, the wellness and lives of all of you, our listeners. The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life, and that you will we all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today. Hi, my friends, and welcome back to Words of Wellness.
Speaker 1:This is my Shelly's Shares episode and I'm going to deviate just a little bit. I started last week with a four-part series. I started last week with a four-part series about some of the issues that we are facing as a country that are really impacting our overall health and longevity, but I'm going to take a little bit of a detour today. I will come back to the four-part series next week the four-part series next week but I felt it was really important for me to share what's on my heart right now after just coming off an amazing weekend in a room full of very powerful and purpose-driven women. Now this can apply to the men out there as well.
Speaker 1:It just so happened that the event that I was attending is called Powerhouse Women and I just wanted to hop in here and share what's on my heart. That really came to me pretty strongly over the weekend and I just felt like some of you listening might be experiencing the same, and I wanted to share a couple of thoughts with you, because an underlying theme of the day was to really follow what is placed on our hearts and I just kept coming back to creating my community for all of my moms out there, my wellness community, moms who Flourish and it was just it kept coming back to me really strongly and was really speaking to me a lot and I just wanted to share that because I feel like, with all the noise going on in the world and again this is a message for everyone with all the noise going on in the world, it's easy to not take the time and the quiet time to really sit with our thoughts and our visions, our own personal dreams. It's easy to get caught up in everything going on around us and not really take that moment to sit and be in thought about what we each desire to do in our lives and for some of us, especially for those of us who are maybe you're a younger mom, you have little ones at home. It's I know it's it's harder to really think, oh, I have this vision, I have this dream, I want to pursue it. But I let me tell you, I was around many moms yesterday who have little ones like a couple moms yesterday have two three month old babies and they're still following their dreams and their visions and it was just such an inspiration to hear and to be around and so I felt like I wanted to hop in here because it was just such confirmation for me too and I want to share that with all of you that when there is a dream placed on your heart, when God places a dream on your heart, it's there for a reason.
Speaker 1:And I think it also really hit home with me because last week I was going through a little bit of a struggle with the direction that I wanted to take, or the direction that I meant to take, with my business, and I definitely got some confirmation on the direction to take and got even more confirmation being in this room surrounded by these other women and moms who are going along the same, similar journeys of following their dreams and pursuing their businesses. And I'm telling you there were all walks of life in that room and all different businesses, and that's another part of this message is to encourage you to get in rooms with those individuals who are going to support you with whatever it is that you are pursuing. And for those of you who might not be pursuing your own business, if you're not an entrepreneur, this might sound a little bit foreign, but it could apply to anything that we're doing in our lives. It doesn't have to just apply to business. It can apply to our personal life, it can apply to our family, it can apply to our spiritual life, it can apply to our physical, our health life. And it just kept coming back to reaffirming with me personally why I'm creating and building this community, this Moms who Flourish community, because I want to create that for all of my moms out there, create this safe, supportive environment where we all can encourage each other and have each other's backs and just be there for one another.
Speaker 1:And that was just an ongoing message and it just kept touching my heart and I just felt like I wanted to hop in here and share, because this might be something that you're going through right now, or maybe you're thinking about starting a business or starting your family or whatever it might be. And for those of you who are local, I just want to remind you that we do have our Moms who Flourish wellness event coming October 4th, and the big reason why I started this community was exactly for that for community, for connection, for support, to be in that environment, to be in that room where you can feel the love and feel the support of others. So I wanted to share that, first and foremost, and then I wanted to share a couple thoughts from a couple of the speakers, some of the quotes that were impactful and I just want to share. There was a beautiful woman by the name of Brittany Noel who spoke yesterday and she's a licensed therapist and she's an author Right and she helps individuals break from generational cycles and she helps individuals confront trauma, and I know that I did an episode recently with one of my guests around this topic as well wanted to share this. This woman, brittany and I'll put her name I'll try and remember to put her name in the show notes because she just spoke with such a calming, encouraging voice and what she shared just made so much sense and she was just talking about.
Speaker 1:One of the topics really that was big was gratitude and just sitting in a place of gratitude and being grateful for where we are today, where we are in this moment. Because, my friends, when you focus on what's right and what's positive and what you're grateful for, it drowns out the negativity. It drowns out those things that might be weighing us down, might be kind of heavy, might be feeling like certain things that are going wrong for us. We flip that switch and, believe me, I know sometimes it's easier said than done. However, if we can take those moments to focus on gratitude, it makes so much difference. And I want to encourage you, if you're not doing this already, taking the time like first thing in the morning when you first wake up, taking a few moments to just think about, write out, maybe journal those different things that we are grateful for. It's just such a powerful way to start your day.
Speaker 1:And you know she talked about how a lot of people are living in just survival mode. So, instead of that, can we reverse survival to thriving, being in that present moment, being in the present mode? That I know, I share that a lot and we might hear that referred to often and I am just such a firm believer of it and I have to be honest, at the beginning of August, I had to take a moment and just seriously, I was just okay. Okay, god, help me be in the moment, because this month has a lot happening and again, I had a bit of a breakdown last week and I know it's just because of things I'm working on in my businesses and travel with my family and everything kind of caught up to me. So, allow yourself to have those moments as well, because it's really important to feel the emotions, to go through the emotions, because, again, a lot of times, that's just a way to release some of the overwhelm and what we might be experiencing, and then it always helps, right, a good cry always helps. So, being in the moment, being present, focusing on thriving versus surviving, I thought that was so, so great being present for today.
Speaker 1:Feel the goodness of today, and this was such a great reminder too, and I like to share this and I really believe me, I try and be intentional about this as far as taking time to rest, allowing yourself time to breathe. Tomorrow will be there. Good things will be happening tomorrow. However, allow yourself to enjoy today. Right, enjoy the moment today. And waking up. With what do I want my life to feel like? Are you waking up excited and energized and ready to start your day? I'd be willing to bet that many of you out there might not be doing that, and I want to encourage you to take some of these steps that I'm talking about. Take steps to start your day with some gratitude. Take steps to start your day with some deep breaths. I always say step outside five minutes, get some fresh air, get a little bit of sunlight on your face. All these things really can have an impact. How you start your day has an impact on how the rest of your day goes, and along these same lines I want to also share.
Speaker 1:I was listening to a podcast on my drive home with another favorite person of mine. His name is Ed Milet and he was doing a podcast episode on this very topic of being present, enjoying the moments. And he says what if this was your last time to do X, y, z? What if it was the last time that you'd get a chance to have your dogs greet you at your front door? Like it sounded a little bit dismal, but it wasn't meant to be that way he was making the point of saying I really believe more of us need to be in the present moment and enjoying what's happening in the here and now, versus racing and rushing to the next thing.
Speaker 1:And I know we're all guilty of this and sometimes we can't avoid it, but that's really on my heart also is just to reiterate the importance of that, reiterate the importance of taking the time to be in the moment, because the moments are just so fleeting. Right yeah, and we were blessed to have a few days together as a family and a short little mini vacation together, and you know, I just I take those moments to heart because they're few and far between now, with our kids grown up, it comes back to being in the moment and being present, putting the phones down, talking, making eye contact, being in the moment, and I just think it's such a great reminder for all of us. You know, and it's again, sometimes it's easier said than done, right? Sometimes, but I wanted to share some of these messages and that were just on my heart from the weekend, and there were, there were so many wonderful moments, but it's also another one was shared was about loving where we are, loving where we are who we are and who we're becoming, and that kind of hit me too, because I think there's so much of the time that we're focusing on the next thing that we're trying to accomplish and we don't always take the time to step back and enjoy the journey, enjoy the process. To step back and enjoy the journey, enjoy the process. And, believe me, I can honestly share and be very transparent with the business that I'm growing right now.
Speaker 1:I've had moments where I feel quite a bit more stress around it and I have to remind myself, shelly, this yeah, there's going to be a little bit of stress, right, but I have to remind myself, shelly, this there yeah, there's going to be a little bit of stress, right, but I have to remind myself to enjoy the journey, the process, because if we're not enjoying that journey, then we have to question ourselves Then what? What is the? What is the point? If we're going to be stressed each day about something and, believe me, there are moments and there are situations in life that lend itself to that and we can't eliminate stress, it's not going anywhere. But if we can, the majority of the time, flip that and remind ourselves that everything is going to work out, everything is going to fall into place as it's meant to and we need to enjoy the journey along the way, whatever that looks like and like the episode that I shared last week was all around stress. It's a part of our life, but, again, we need to find ways to deal with and manage our stress effectively so that it doesn't take over our lives.
Speaker 1:So, again, I just wanted to hop in here and just share a little bit of what was on my heart from this weekend's experience that I had, and next week we will come back to continuing our four-part series on the different health issues that are impacting ourselves as a country. Last week I spoke on stress and I will continue the four-part series next week, but I wanted to take a moment and just share about this weekend and share the impact that it had on me, and also share that it was such a reminder and a confirmation that I want to just grow our community of moms who flourish big, because that's what this community that I was a part of over the weekend is all about as well, and it started gosh nine years ago and it's such a welcoming and warm and supportive environment of women, and I want the same thing for all of my moms out there, so it really really was touching my heart. I just wanted to share that message with you all today and I hope that this touches someone's heart out there. Today and until next time, take time for yourself and your wellness. Take the time to be grateful and be in gratitude, take the time to take some deep breaths in and really be present. And until next time, my friends, have a beautiful, blessed rest of your week and I'll see you next time on Words of Wellness.
