Beyond Saving with Olga Campbell: Why Financial Wellness Is Self-Care
Picture this: you've diligently saved for decades, your retirement account has grown impressively, but a nagging question keeps you up at night – "Will I have enough money for as long as I live?" Financial expert Olga Campbell addresses this universal concern head-on in our latest conversation, revealing how proper planning can transform anxiety into peace of mind.
Olga shares a powerful client story that demonstrates the life-changing impact of proactive financial planning. Her client had originally planned to retire at 67, but when both parents fell ill, she became their full-time caregiver, forcing her to leave her job seven years earlier than anticipated. After her parents passed, she faced a frightening question: "What happens to me now?" Thanks to the financial plan Olga had created with her in 2019, this woman discovered she not only had enough to retire early but would actually have more than needed – providing immense relief during an otherwise difficult transition.
This conversation illuminates a crucial truth about retirement planning: it's not about reaching a specific age, but rather achieving your "number" – the amount needed to maintain your desired lifestyle throughout your remaining years. As Olga wisely points out, financial wellness is deeply connected to our physical and mental health. Money stress is a leading cause of overall stress, making sound financial planning an essential component of our holistic wellness journey. The discussion also explores how our relationship with money is often shaped by childhood experiences, potentially requiring mindset shifts before meaningful financial change can occur.
Ready to transform your financial outlook and reduce money-related stress? Take Olga's closing advice to heart: "Nothing changes unless you initiate the change." Connect with her for a free consultation to discuss your unique situation and create a personalized financial roadmap. Join us on October 4th at the Moms Who Flourish event in Southern California to hear Olga speak in person and continue your journey toward complete wellness – financial, physical, and emotional.

One of the hot topics right now with a lot of clients that I sit down with is they've done an excellent job accumulating right, putting money aside, growing the 401k, the traditional IRA, getting some assets aside but then one thing that you really need to consider is now preserving it, and how do we take what we've set aside and accumulated and ensure that there's going to be enough for as long as we live?
Speaker 2:Do you get confused by all of the information that Vabar does every day on ways to improve our overall health and our overall wellness? Do you often feel stuck, unmotivated or struggle to reach your wellness goals? Do you have questions as to what exercises you should be doing, what foods you should or should not be eating, how to improve your overall emotional and mental well-being? Hello everyone, I am so excited to welcome you to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelly Jeffries and I will be your host. My goal is to answer these questions and so much more To share tips, education and inspiration around all of the components of wellness through solo and guest episodes.
Speaker 2:With 35 plus years as a health and wellness professional, a retired college professor, a speaker and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I certainly have lots to share. However, my biggest goal and inspiration in doing this podcast is to share the wellness stories of others with you, to bring in guests who can share their journeys so that we can all learn together while making an impact on the health, the wellness and lives of all of you, our listeners. The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life, and that you will. We all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today.
Speaker 2:Hello everyone, and welcome back to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelly and I am your host, and I have a very special guest today who is also a very special, beautiful friend, and she is going to share her expertise with us all when it comes to our finances and retirement. She is a senior associate for her company and she refers to herself as the save money expert, which I don't know about all of you, but that's a great title and a very, very important topic for us all. So welcome, olga Campbell, to the show.
Speaker 1:Thank you so much, Shelley. Thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here and have a conversation with you.
Speaker 2:I am excited too, and I know that you are no pun intended, but a wealth of knowledge, and so we're going to jump right in, because we were having a conversation just a few minutes ago about what you can do for people and how you are serving your clients and just, in general, the information that you can share with us to help us all, whether we are at retirement age or it's 5, 10, 15, 20 years down the road, whatever place we are at in our lives, I know that you have some solutions. So I would love for you just to kind of jump in and share a little bit about what you were sharing with me earlier how you helped a recent client, which is an amazing story and tell us a little bit about your quote save money expertise, I should say.
Speaker 1:Sure, I'm excited, absolutely excited to share that. I'm passionate about helping people secure their money right and how can we add value to the money that you've already saved so that you know what you're in a position where you don't have to stress down the road when you do want to retire. I honestly believe that you know retirement comes with a number right how much do I need and do I have that, and how do I get there? And not necessarily your age. So I was sharing with you earlier that just this morning. One of the hot topics right now with a lot of clients that I sit down with is they've done an excellent job accumulating right, putting money aside, growing the 401k, the traditional IRA, getting some assets aside, but then one thing that you really need to consider is now preserving it. One thing that you really need to consider is now preserving it and how do we take what we've set aside and accumulated and ensure that there's going to be enough for as long as we live? As you know, because of your expertise in nutrition and all of that, people are living longer, right? So one of the concerns is that will I have enough money for as long as I live? The concerns is that will I have enough money for as long as I live? Am I going to run out of money? And then we have different life circumstances that pop up.
Speaker 1:The client that I sat down with today her intent was to retire at the age of 67. Seven years ago I put a plan together for her with that goal in mind. We structured everything so she was going to have enough money as income that she wouldn't have to worry and she will have the income that she needed. Well, life happened. Both her parents fell ill and they needed care. She didn't want to put them in a care facility that was her choice, of course and the parents did not want someone else coming and looking after them. So she was saying you know what it's in my heart to really look after them. So that meant she's no longer going to generate an income for those seven years that she thought she still had.
Speaker 1:Right Now she's letting go of her job and becoming a full-time caregiver for both her parents. Her parents, both of them recently passed away and now she's in a position where okay, what happens to me? I'm, in essence, retired a little bit earlier than I anticipated. She was living with her parents in their home, and so all that is changing. So her life completely looks different. She says you know what? It's a whole new novel, and.
Speaker 1:But in the midst of it right, she's been a caregiver for seven years coming back into the workforce, she's really uncomfortable. And she says you know what? I can go and do whatever I need to do, but there's nothing out there that's going to generate the income that she needed. So what I did is I sat down with her. We put a plan together. We figured out what are her expenses, to see how much she actually needed to live off of now until forever, right, and we figured out her number was about 5,000. So she needed 5,000 a month. So then what I did was I went back to the plan that I created with her back in early 2019. And even though she's retiring or needing to pull money out earlier than we had planned, I'm still able to create a ladder of the distribution where she will have the money that she needs.
Speaker 1:The beautiful thing she was in tears, she's like this gives me so much peace, and she didn't realize to the extent of creating that plan in 2019 and the positive impact that it was going to give her and offer her now, and because it's a laddered plan, she will actually have more than what she needs. She'll have more than what she needs. How beautiful is that? So, to be informed, to be able to just sit down and know your numbers and create a plan, so you're working towards something is better than just a wish in your head. Right, it's better than a wish in your head.
Speaker 1:The thing is, it doesn't take a lot to sit down and create that plan, but people get busy with life and you think about it. I want to get to it, I need to look at these numbers, I need to see, and then life gets in the way and you don't take that moment, right. But let me tell you, do you think that she's happy? She took the moment in 2019 to create that plan for herself. She's really happy. She's like over the top, thanking herself for having done that right, because today she sleeps easy. She sleeps easy.
Speaker 2:I just love this story so much and you hit the nail on the head saying she's at peace, like I. Just I have that feeling of just such that feeling of peace and self-assuredness that you're going to be fine and you're so right about life. You know, it happens to all of us and we get caught up on our routine and our schedules and and our kids and our jobs and whatever the case may be. And I think and I don't know that, I don't think I'm alone with this even though we're quote unquote older, you know, I still feel like I'm in like in my 20s, my 30s. It's like one of those things where you don't feel like you're getting older, yet you are and you, you must, must make it a priority Absolutely.
Speaker 2:And you know, you, olga, and of course I could be biased because you're my friend, but you explain things so well and you are, you just have such a good heart and I just want to let the listeners know and we'll be sharing Olga's information at the end of the show, but I encourage any of you who are listening to reach out to Olga and we'll get to this a little bit later, but you know, you're hearing her talk and I'm I'm letting you know because I do know her, but she's just such a good person and will take such good care of you and we'll explain things so clearly like you're doing now and I just what a blessing that this woman had the, the wherewithal to do this back then. Like amazing, all these years later, she's good, she's going to be set.
Speaker 1:Here's the thing I love that. You said that, the reason, one of the reasons why it's funny because a few years back I went through a radical change in my life right, I've got triplets and my then husband decided he didn't want to do the married thing anymore. So that was a choice that happened. But moving forward, we know that. You know you don't sit, you cry, of course, and you experience all the feelings, but then you need to move forward, right. And one of the things that I needed to do at that time was sit down and look at my finances, because that income was gone. I was a stay-at-home mom, so I needed to figure out how am I going to make this work for myself, for my family, right? So one of the first things I did was seek out, and I sat down with the now CEO of the company. She created a plan for me and it made sense, but it helped me stay focused on the goals that I wanted to achieve, also, coming into retirement for myself, because that plan was gone, right. So I needed to build up and do that. So along the way, I've learned a lot for me, and one of the key things, too, is in the information that you acquire thing with you, shelly right, all these years in what you do providing nutrition, making sure that your physical body is good so that when you come into retirement you know you're still able to run, walk, get up, climb, jump, do whatever. But it's a process, but you've learned it. Right, I've learned. And what makes me so passionate is because, over and over again, I see the difference that I make for people. And it doesn't have to be complicated. You don't have to throw different jargons and make it all complex. No, it's funny because I one of the things that I did as well was to put a trust in place, right, and when I approached the attorney, I said to her okay, you need to explain this to me as if I was a first grader, because I know nothing about this. Right, and then you do, and then you have an understanding and it puts you in a position where, if someone asks you a question, you can pass on that knowledge. Right, and part of what I've done is because of being so thankful for someone taking the time sitting down with me, creating that financial plan allowing. My kids are now 25, they graduated college, they're off on their own and they are already so far ahead financially than I was in my 20s right, because I was able to pass on that information and they've taken different steps, and I call that generational wealth as well, because of the knowledge that you're passing on, right, but it stems from that point you want to be able to, and one of the things that I do is really take the time to educate so that you know where you're at, what it is that you need and how we're going to get you there and how each step is going to develop you to get to that goal. Right, because it's a process. It's a process, but you want to know. You want to know what does this mean? What does this mean? Right?
Speaker 1:One of the big things right now is the need for long-term care. I hit 60 and it's become such a thing for me. I'm like, okay, I want to make sure that everything's in place so that I have the funds to be taken care of. I don't want my kids to be my caregivers. I did tell them I'd come back and haunt them in some way if they don't visit me. But that is a concern. That know, that is a concern. So how do I make sure that I'm living life and enjoying life, but in the event, because we can't control stuff that happens right. In the event of that, I'm still okay.
Speaker 2:I love that and it's so important and I and again such spot on information. When it comes to our own kids and I know we were talking earlier like both of my husband and I are parents and are no longer living, so we don't have that concern for the future. So then it's, it's going to fall back. Anything is going to be, you know, going back to our children, but same thing, we don't want them to have to be taking care of us. And it's really interesting. It kind of goes. It absolutely actually goes in alignment with what I do, because I saw my mom suffer and lose her battle with cancer. 10 years later, my dad had various illnesses. He lost his battle and I look at those experiences and it's really interesting because we all have a story and I love that.
Speaker 2:You shared yours when your husband left and then you were like on your own to figure things out financially and it's always been one of my I don't want to say goals, but it really was. What pushes me forward is my hope and prayer is that I can stay and my husband stay healthy and feeling good here on this earth and not have my kids see me go through what I saw my parents go through, but it's like you say, there's no guarantee, but if we can take the steps to alleviate that or reduce the chances and it's same exact thing as what you're doing with the financial side of things is like what can we do to make it better for our adult children, or whoever is listening right now If you have younger kids maybe you don't have kids yet, but it's never too late and never too early to start planning right, never never too early, never too late, and with the nutritional and the coaching that you do, oh my gosh, you're going to live forever.
Speaker 1:I just hope I'm around to see it right. Well, I love you and I hope, I hope, hope.
Speaker 2:I'm around to see it right. Well, I love you and I hope I hope I don't know that I want to be around forever, but my goal is always like to live. It's like you said in the beginning about quality of life. That's our, ultimately our, goal. We want to have that quality of life that we're living longer but feeling good while we're doing it Right that's, and having the money to live it. That was going to be the next thing. Yes, yes, yes. So, oh my gosh, I love this conversation. I feel like you and I could just, we just interwoven what you know, what we are doing, and you're just sharing so much great value here. I love it so much. I know we could talk forever. What would be the best place for listeners to reach out to you, olga?
Speaker 1:You can reach out to me on my Instagram OlgaCampbell300FG. That's F as in Frank, g as in gate, so OlgaCampbell300FG, there's a link to my. What other form, however you can reach out to me? I can give you my telephone number. I'm an open book. You can look for me on Facebook. I'm there as well. But whatever it is, do take a moment to college. You have different goals and all those pieces. You know it's better to have a plan than just to to wing it. We talk about physical wellness, and the financial wellness comes into play, because so much of life stress does have an impact. So it's either healing from the inside out, but also looking at the other factors that are creating the stress.
Speaker 2:It's so huge what you're saying because I just get fired up about this, because one of the big detriments to our health, as you know, is stress. What is the biggest cause of stress? Money issues, right. It's like you know, you're doing the same thing like I'm doing for wellness and health of others, just from a different standpoint and a different perspective, but it's huge.
Speaker 1:Absolutely. Even the relationship with food and what you're consuming, right? I know that you do this presentation that's absolutely amazing on breaking all of that down. But similarly, money. There's a relationship with money and sometimes it's not even yours, right? It's whatever you heard growing up and so you have that relationship that may not even be a valid truth, but you're carrying it and you know the scarcity of it or how difficult, but it doesn't have to be that way. I don't know. Maybe I should put a web course together or something on relationship with money and how to change that mindset, right? Maybe I should send people interested. I'll pull that together because it is building through and changing that mindset a little bit and it does make a difference it really does and taking ownership, right.
Speaker 2:A hundred percent. Yes, this you are so spot on because from what I experienced with others and experienced in the business community and in the wellness community and other people that I talk with, to me the mindset is the biggest challenge I think people have, because we're not used to at least our generation. I guess we're not used to at least our generation. I guess we're not used to growing up and just openly talking about money and for so many it has this like negative energy when it's not. But it's what, what? What did you experience growing up and what were you told? And I mean, I wasn't told this, but you always hear people talking about oh, money doesn't grow on trees like some kind of negative comment, right?
Speaker 1:Yeah, what, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:What if you did something like that? I think it would be huge.
Speaker 1:Absolutely. Actually, you've got me fired up. I think I would love to do that and just you know, at the end of the day you can sit down and you attend, just like you know, with everything that you do, everything that you share the information and you're providing people with information. But I would love to do that.
Speaker 2:Maybe I'll start poking around and you can help me navigate through that I would love to help you because I think it would be such valuable information to get out to the world and I just want to share with everyone. You know I've been honored to know Olga for quite a while now and she has spoken at our last two Moms who Flourish events and our next one is coming up in October. And if you are anywhere close to Southern California, or even if you're out of state we've had speakers come from out of state. We are holding the next event October 4th and you'll get to hear Olga in person and she's phenomenal and I'm just so grateful for you taking time today. My, my friend, this has been awesome, thank you.
Speaker 1:Thank you so much. It's been a privilege. I absolutely, like you said, I can talk about this forever and if you're wanting to know and just information, it's a conversation, you're not obligated to any anything. But I'd love to offer just a free consultation. Just sit down, have that conversation, start it somewhere, right? How do I protect the money that I've already saved?
Speaker 2:I will put Olga's contact information in the show notes and definitely reach out to her, as she's letting everyone know that she will openly do a free consultation. Do that, take advantage of that. You will learn so much from her during that time and, just as any being conscientious of everyone's time, any last minute words of advice or inspiration that you would like to share and leave with our listeners.
Speaker 1:Yeah, how about nothing changes unless you initiate the change. You can sit down and want and keep wanting and keep wanting, but unless you book a call with Shelly, unless you book a call with me and look to see where you're at, to see what steps you can take, what action you can take right to change things, then it's not going to happen. And that decision you know where it sits With each individual right With each individual, so good so.
Speaker 1:I don't know if that's wise or not, but I'm just thinking back to like early this morning sitting down with this lady I'm going to circle back here that you know she was really emotional and the fact that she took that action in 2019, where she's at now is beyond where she thought she'd be in a positive, positive way, right. But again, we don't know unless we we take that action. So just do it. Just do it so good.
Speaker 2:So, so good, let's talk.
Speaker 1:Let's talk.
Speaker 2:Oh, I love it and I love you and thank you, October 4th.
Speaker 1:October 4th. There's a wealth of information that is poured into you. Look for the link. Purchase tickets early. Get there.
Speaker 2:It is so much fun, so much fun to be in the room it's so much fun and yes, absolutely, I'm going to add the link in the show notes for registration. And so important to get in the room it really is, especially with like-minded moms like ourselves it's there's no words. And so important to get in the room it really is, especially with like-minded moms like ourselves it's there's no words. And so rewarding and it's so rewarding, I'm sure, what you experienced today with your client, just to know that you made that difference in her life in such a big way. So kudos to you for doing that In no way there's.
Speaker 1:you know, we've all, we're all moms, we've all gone through. Whatever it is, we can discuss, we can share stories, no judgment, no judgment, just real transparency. And I don't know where all you know you guys are at, but hitting 60 just looks different for me and it's one of those you know what Transparency? Anything that I can share and I can help, I will 100% be there and do it.
Speaker 2:Oh, and I'm right behind you, my friend, and I feel exactly the same way, like whatever we can share that's going to help someone in their journey, whatever that looks like we're in. So thank you so much. It's being of service.
Speaker 1:Yes, absolutely yes it is.
Speaker 2:I appreciate you, shelly.
