Have you ever experienced those magical moments when life's seemingly random events suddenly reveal their hidden connections? That's exactly what happened during Shellt's recent trip to Eugene, Oregon where she traveled to watch her son play baseball.

Walking into the Valley River Inn brought a flood of memories—from an impromptu family stay fifteen years ago during a Thanksgiving road trip, to visits when her daughter attended the University of Oregon, to business events Shelly later hosted in the area. The realization that this place had been woven throughout her family story for years without them planning it left her in awe of life's mysterious patterns.

This spiritual dimension of wellness—recognizing that our journeys often have purpose and meaning beyond what we can see in the moment—offers profound comfort and perspective. Whether through faith or through your own personal lens, these connections remind us that life's seemingly random events often form a beautiful tapestry when viewed in retrospect.

Beyond this spiritual reflection, Shelly's time in Oregon highlighted another vital aspect of wellness: the importance of being fully present with life's simple joys. Her final evening at the inn, watching the rain fall over the Willamette River, enjoying a glass of wine by the fireplace, and simply soaking in the moment provided deep restoration. These quiet moments of mindful presence are essential components of our overall wellbeing that we too often neglect.

Shelly finishes with encouraging you to look for these connections in your own life story and to make time for those simple pleasures that bring you joy. Take a moment to be present, to reflect on your journey, and to appreciate how far you've come. Your wellness journey includes not just physical health, but spiritual and emotional wellbeing too. What simple joy will you make time for today?

and I think what happens. Over time, especially with age and experience, also comes wisdom and you can look back at certain events of your life and go, wow, this is so cool to think how this was all connected. Do you get confused by all of the information that the bar does every day on ways to improve our overall health and our overall wellness? Do you often feel stuck, unmotivated or struggle to reach your wellness goals? Do you have questions as to what exercises you should be doing, what foods you should or should not be eating, how to improve your overall emotional and mental well-being? Hello everyone, I am so excited to welcome you to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelley Jeffries and I will be your host. My goal is to answer these questions and so much more to share tips, education and inspiration around all of the components of wellness through solo and guest episodes. With 35 plus years as a health and wellness professional, a retired college professor, a speaker and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I certainly have lots to share. However, my biggest goal and inspiration in doing this podcast is to share the wellness stories of others with you, to bring in guests who can share their journeys so that we can all learn together while making an impact on the health, the wellness and lives of all of you, our listeners. The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life, and that you will. We all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today. Hello, my friends, and welcome to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelly and I will be your host, and I am jumping in today to share a little bit about a personal journey, personal experience. But really one of the areas of wellness that I haven't touched upon a lot is the spiritual side and kind of. You know, whatever it is that you believe in is great. I personally have a very strong faith and believe in prayer and believe in God and believe that there are really no coincidences in life, and I think what happens over time, especially with age and experience, also comes. Wisdom also comes wisdom, and you can look back at certain events of your life and go, wow, this is so cool to think how this was all connected. And again, you know, whatever it is that you believe in, I think we can all agree that that happens, right, you get to a certain stage in life or maybe you know, depending on what age you are. It doesn't always have to come with age, but I find it more and more frequently happening with myself and I can look back and go. This is really cool, how this is all connected and just it just makes me smile and I just feel like God works in very mysterious, wonderful ways.

Speaker 1:

And I went up to Eugene, oregon, for the weekend to watch my youngest son, braden, play baseball. And there's a little bit of a history there for us, because my daughter, her first college experience, was at University of Oregon and so we were a duck for a while there for a couple years, and during that time that she was up there, I also did a couple of business events for the wellness company that I'm partnered with, isagenix. We had a couple super Saturdays up in that area that I helped host and put on, and it's just so, so crazy to think back about the history of being there and you know, so many years ago being there with our daughter and then now, these years later, being up there with our youngest playing baseball, and so it brought back a lot of memories and what was really cool. A couple things. One is that many years ago probably this was gosh maybe 15 years ago, 13 to 15 years ago we were driving up to Washington State. We were taking a road trip and we were driving up to Washington to spend Thanksgiving with my family, my aunts, my uncles, my cousins up there.

Speaker 1:

And as we were driving we decided we wanted to stay the night in Eugene and, mind you, at this point we didn't know anything about the college, the ducks, we weren't familiar with any of it. So I look on my phone and I look for a place for us to stay overnight and I find this inn that looks really cool, the Valley River Inn, and I call and they have room. So we ended up staying there and it was just the coziest place. I mean it was decorated for the holidays, we walked in and big fireplace and a really cozy little restaurant area, and right on the Willamette River. And for those of you who are familiar with the area, you know that that's just. It's just beautiful, it's beautiful country, and so we stayed there and years later, our daughter ends up going to school there and then, years later, here I'm there with our youngest son, braden, and he's playing baseball against the Oregon Ducks and it was just really special.

Speaker 1:

And the last night that I was there after, after the teams and everybody left, I stayed one more night and I purposefully booked a room to stay at the Valley River Inn and it just couldn't have been more perfect. It was raining and when I got there I just walked in. I just felt like this sense of just reminiscing on being there and being there with my family and just all of the years connecting all of the dots and just loving the location. And again, it's very cozy, it's a really cozy spot and I just took time to just soak it all in. And that's another part of what I want to share right now is are you taking moments like that?

Speaker 1:

I really, truly, was just so present and I took a moment to sit outside. They have a little patio area and even though it was raining, I took a little time to sit out there and just take in the view, got a nice glass of red wine and and then I went in and watched a little bit more baseball and was able to watch the replay of my older son's team that he coaches. I was able to watch the finished replay of his game on my phone. And then I sat by the fireplace for a little bit and I just, you know, I just relaxed and took in all of the, all of the things that I was experiencing, and many, many of those things are my favorite things baseball, fireplace, red wine, sitting along the river with the beautiful view.

Speaker 1:

But it was just so special and, you know, the big message I just felt the next morning as I was running along the river was that, wow, to think back that we stayed at that location so many years ago, not even knowing, having no knowledge of the area, and then fast forward a few years, we're there at the college, fast forward a few more years, we're there at the college again and in the area again. And so it was just a lot of memories and reminiscing and it was just really cool. So for me personally, my message and what I was really feeling was like God is so good and he just works in mysterious ways, and I was just thinking back and just connecting all the dots going. This is wild, like it's almost like a preparation for what's going to be happening, like he knows, even though we don't at the time, because that's something that has happened more than once for us. We had another trip that we were on many years ago and we were going through Michigan and we stopped in Michigan. We stopped at a Whole Foods in Michigan, not even knowing that years later our Cody would be there and now our Braden would be there.

Speaker 1:

So it's just, you know, when you look back at some of these life events and you connect the dots, it just it's just a really special feeling. So I just wanted to hop on and share that. I hope that you are able to do that and just kind of look back at certain events in your life and it just it makes me smile. I hope it does for you as well. And it's just a really, a really special feeling that I had this past weekend. And you know it's nice to have that. It's nice to have a place where you have good memories and then you go back and you make new, more new good memories and you can just kind of relish in all of that. And that's exactly what I did.

Speaker 1:

And you know, I want to encourage you all, as I always do take time for yourself and your own personal wellness and also take time for just doing some of those favorite things that you enjoy some of the simplest things in life. That's the other message that I want to share today, because that's what I did my last night in Oregon. It was raining and I love the rain when you are inside and you're in a cozy environment, and that's exactly where I was, and I just took it all in, enjoyed it, enjoyed some nice wine and a nice dinner and just a beautiful view, and then I sat by the fireplace and it just was so, so comfy and so cozy, and so I just want to encourage you to do the same. When you have the opportunity to just sit back and be in the moment, enjoy some of those favorite simple joys of life. It can make all the difference in the world, and so I just wanted to share that, and I hope you have those moments where you can look back on events in your own life and realize, wow, okay, god was at work, god was at work these moments, and I can connect the dots and see the journey and see how we were led to certain directions in our lives, and it's just a really cool feeling. So, anyway, I wanted to share that and, again, take time for you, take some time to enjoy some of your favorite simple things in life and take time for yourself, your own personal wellness, and have a beautiful, blessed week, and I will see you all next time on Words of Wellness.
