The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life, and that you will. We all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today.
Speaker 1:Hello everyone, and welcome to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelly Jeffries and I will be your host, and I wanted to hop in today and share a couple quick messages with you all, as this episode will be airing on Christmas Day. I don't know exactly when you will be listening to this episode, but I had a couple of thoughts that I wanted to share, a couple of things that were on my heart, and I'm also very excited. I just did a recording with one of my very special friends, andrea, and it's very unique because I am celebrating today. December 20th is the date that I am recording this episode. It is exactly a year from when I started my podcast. My first episode launched on a Wednesday, december 20th, and I just cannot believe that it's been a full year already and I just want to give a huge shout out to all of you who have been listening and who have been with me from the beginning, and those of you who have joined later on in the year. It means more than you know to have you tuning in, listening, and I just thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your support along this journey. I have just loved this journey and I continue to love it and I'm excited for what's to come and where it's going to take me and what I'm gonna share with all of you in the coming year.
Speaker 1:So I wanted to just share a couple thoughts. I had One I was really thinking about for those of you who celebrate Christmas, and I wanted to just talk a little bit about traditions, no-transcript. I really come back to the importance of the time that we have together and I want you to think about this with any of your loved ones, your friends, your family, whoever it is that you spend time with, especially during the holidays, is focusing on the quality of the time together, because I know for me personally at this stage of my life and with my family, it's not always quantity right. I have all of my kids now out of the house. Our two older kids have their jobs. They are busy, you know, in their lives, adulting as we say, adulting as we say, and our youngest just started college and so it's not as much time, if you will, as we used to have. But I've come to realize it's more about the moments, it's more about the quality of our time together, and I just wanted to share that because sometimes it might cut into some of the traditions that we're used to doing around the holidays, and one of which is my family.
Speaker 1:Through the years we have always had a family shopping day where we'll go out a few days before Christmas and whatever gifts we have left to purchase for each other, we come together and we do a little bit of a break, like two of us will go shopping for my husband or whatever it is. We, we, we break up and we go and we do the shopping and then we go. Okay, we're going to meet up at such and such place at such and such time, and it's just kind of a fun way to get out and just finish up our shopping together and grab dinner together. And you know, we've kind of been flexible through the years and one year we went down close, closer to where my daughter is, so we could, you know, be close to her, and her work schedule, you know, didn't permit her to come home. So we went down to where she was so we could do that shopping day and and this year it's not going to happen before Christmas, but we might try and go out like a day or two after and maybe take advantage of some of the sales.
Speaker 1:But I say this because I guess you know, just to encourage everyone and maybe I'm talking to myself as well to know that yes, you have traditions and yes, you have traditions with your family, your friends, your loved ones, and sometimes those traditions we might have to tweak just a little bit and be okay with it. I know we like to cook together, we like to bake together, and we'll do some of that for sure. And even our tree. You know we have a beautiful tree in our front room right now, but we're waiting to decorate it, we're waiting to put all of the ornaments on it until all of our kids are home, so that we can all do it together. And if that means it's like Christmas Eve, then that's fine and that's what we're doing so. You make it work, you go with the flow as much as you can and adapt to whatever is going on at that point of time. So I hope that that can help any of you who might be kind of going through the same thing. Maybe some of you out there are empty nesters as well, and it just adjusts the schedule just a little bit and maybe have to adjust some of the traditions and be a little bit more flexible with the schedule.
Speaker 1:So I wanted to talk about that a little bit and I also wanted to share something else that's on my heart is just the importance of connection and being in person and having conversations in person. I've had such an interesting week it really it started exactly a week ago where I've been running into friends, out and about and having moments to be able to talk with them and catch up with them, and I'm just reminded of such the importance of that human connection, that human interaction. And I wanted to talk about it a little bit because one of the days it happened while I was out running and walking and I'm at a point where I will stop, you might get into your workout and you were like, oh, I don't want to stop what I'm doing, but I'm at a stage in my life now where I can make up my run later. It's more important for me to stop and talk to this friend of mine and catch up. And it was just. It just made my heart so happy to see two of my friends along my run last a week ago and being able to stop and chat with them and catch up with them. And the same thing happened the next day.
Speaker 1:I was getting ready to text a friend of mine and then I went you know what you'll be seeing her next week. You know it's Saturday, her day off, it can wait, you'll see her next week. And you know that I ended up running into her like two or three hours later at the post office and and I shared this earlier when I was talking to my friend Andrea, and so wild like here I was thinking about her, I literally started to text her. And my friend Andrea and so wild Like here I was thinking about her, I literally started to text her and I went no, that's okay, you'll see her next week. And then I run into her and we talked for probably an hour, hour and a half in the parking lot of the post office.
Speaker 1:And why am I sharing this? I'm just sharing this because I want to encourage you all to be in those moments, take the time to stop, take the time to visit with a friend, take the time to be present and I am certainly not perfect at this. However, I really am intentional at doing it in my own life and I just know that it's so fulfilling when you can take that time with someone, especially in this day and age that we are in, and especially this time of year. Right, that's, the thing too, is that we get caught, that human contact, a human hug, that human interaction, that conversation in person, and it just is so, so huge. And so I just want to encourage you all, whatever you're doing at this point in time or wherever you're at in your celebration of the holidays and whatever you celebrate, I want to encourage you to really be in the moment and take that time, because you know, when we talk about our overall wellness, you know there's so many things that we can do to improve our wellness and there's so many different areas of wellness that can contribute to our complete wellness, but one of those is time, and we can't ever get time back.
Speaker 1:And I don't say that in a dismal way, in any way, but I say that in a way to encourage and remind all of us, including myself, to be present, appreciate those moments and and take the time to be with, to talk to loved ones, whether they're family members, friends, whatever it might be Reach out, make that phone call, make that personal contact, meet for coffee or just randomly run into them, which has happened to me over and over again this past week and it's been amazing, and it has just been such a reminder of the importance of that human connection and that human interaction. So that's really my message for today. So, again, this episode will be coming out on Christmas day, because I want to be consistent with all of my listeners and I always have my podcast coming out every Wednesday for wellness Wednesday. It's what I've done for the past year and I want to continue to do so.
Speaker 1:So I just wanted to share this personal message with with you all, and I hope that you find some value and meaning in it during this time of year, and I just wish you all the best holiday season, whatever it is you're doing. And again, whatever it is you're celebrating and whoever you're celebrating with, I hope that you can be in the moment and enjoy every moment and, with that being said, I will be seeing you all next time in the new year, which is crazy to think. I'm excited for it. I hope that you all are too. I really feel and believe it's going to be a wonderful, wonderful year and, of course, I wish everyone a healthy, healthy, happy holiday season, and next time I see you it will be 2025. Or I guess next time you're listening to me it'll be 2025. And, as always, I encourage you to do something for you, for your own personal wellness, and have a just, beautiful, blessed Christmas, if you are celebrating, and have a beautiful, blessed week, and I will see you all in 2025.
Speaker 1:Thank you so much for tuning into today's episode. I hope you gained value and enjoyed our time together as much as I did, and if you know someone who could benefit from today's episode, I would love and appreciate it if you could share with a friend or rate and review words of wellness so that more can hear this message.
