Speaker 1:

The obesogens are our chemicals that enter our body through these different pathways that I shared earlier through the food we eat, through the environment, and they get stored in our fat cells and they can create a concern for our health, and they can also make it very, very challenging to release weight and, even more so, to release that visceral body fat that can be very unhealthy. Do you get confused by all of the information that bombard us every day on ways to improve our overall health and our overall wellness? Do you often feel stuck, unmotivated or struggle to reach your wellness goals? Do you have questions as to what exercises you should be doing, what foods you should or should not be eating, how to improve your overall emotional and mental well-being? Hello everyone, I am so excited to welcome you to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelley Jeffries and I will be your host. My goal is to answer these questions and so much more to share tips, education and inspiration around all of the components of wellness through solo and guest episodes. With 35 plus years as a health and wellness professional, a retired college professor, a speaker and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I certainly have lots to share. However, my biggest goal and inspiration in doing this podcast is to share the wellness stories of others with you, to bring in guests who can share their journeys so that we can all learn together while making an impact on the health, the wellness and lives of all of you, our listeners. The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life, and that you will we all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today.

Speaker 1:

And for those of you who have been listening, you know we we talk about various topics here. I bring in guests from all different backgrounds and I just really love having this opportunity to share with you not just my personal experiences, my personal knowledge, but bringing guests to you that can share their experiences and their knowledge. And the more that we do that, the more that we learn and we grow together, the better we can be along our health and wellness journey. So thank you again for being here. Thank you again for listening.

Speaker 1:

I want to talk about a topic today. That is a topic that I'm very passionate about, and I realized it today as I was out walking and sharing. I did a couple lives on social media and I wanted to jump in here and share with you all a little bit about something that I have done for a few years. That is part of my overall wellness routine and protocol, and I know I have talked about this topic in the past, but I wanted to just shed a little bit of light on what we are dealing with when we are talking about our weight, obesity, toxins and how different toxins are affecting our overall health, and I'm not going to go into a lot of great detail here today, but I did want to share a little bit about what I do and also share with you, for those of you might not be familiar with, some of the ways toxins are affecting our bodies, affecting our cells and contributing to weight gain.

Speaker 1:

So over 10 years ago now, I was introduced to a wellness company and, as a matter of fact, I often feel like it was something I was led to. I was the one who initiated reaching out and finding information out about this particular company and, as luck would have it or fate, I'm not sure I mean I believe it was fate. I believe I was led to the company. I started using the system, the nutrition, the products, and within a matter of days I noticed a difference in how I felt. And then I introduced something into my wellness routine that I hadn't yet done. I hadn't done this before. Through all my years of being a health and wellness professional, I had done a couple, I don't know. I guess you would call them cleanses, but they were those that kind of targeted one organ and they, yes, they were those that caused you to have to run to the bathroom and that's all I had experienced. And I had done that maybe two or three times, not that many. But then I was introduced to the, this concept of cellular cleansing, of doing an intermittent fast that was supported by nutrition, and it was something that I had never done and I was just blown away by the results, most significantly and significantly blown away by the amount of energy that I would have and that I still have after I complete the cleanse, the amount of just mental clarity, sleeping better, less stress, and in addition to that, it definitely also strengthens my immune system. It helps to contribute to a healthier metabolism, healthier digestion and many, many other health benefits.

Speaker 1:

And I am sharing this because a topic that I talk about and I speak on often is about toxins and how we're exposed to so many different toxins every single day and our body is burdened with toxic overload. Now we get toxins from the food that we eat, the water that we drink, the air that we breathe, lotion we put on our skin, shampoo we put in our hair, cleaning products that we use in our home I mean, they're basically everywhere and so we are exposed on a daily basis, and there are approximately 80,000 chemicals floating around that we're exposed to, with a very, very small percentage of those toxins and those chemicals being approved to be safe. Now, I'm not going to go into a lot of the numbers here today, but many of you are probably aware of the fact that there are numerous fact that there are numerous, numerous chemicals that have been banned in Europe. They are illegal and they are still allowed in the United States in many of our products. So there's definitely a concern, and I have always said whatever we can do, that's in our power, whatever is in our control, to take steps to one, reduce our toxic exposure, to reduce our toxic load and, three, take steps that can help release some of those toxins and those impurities out of our body. And that is why I do, on a monthly basis, a nutritionally supported intermittent fast, and it is something that, like I said, is something I have been doing for many years. It is not one of those cleanses where you're running to the restroom. It is working more at the cellular level, so it's targeting your entire body, and when I say this it truly does, I mean the amount of mental clarity that I have when I complete one of these cleanses is off the charts. The energy is just amazing and, in addition, I know that my body's experiencing so many different health benefits, so it's something that I continue to do on a regular basis. Now, one of the big benefits is that, yes, it does target weight, it does help individuals release weight and, most specifically, it helps individuals release body fat.

Speaker 1:

Now, we all have body fat in and around our bodies, and some is necessary, some is healthy, but the majority of individuals have more than needed and in some cases they have more, so much more, that it's very, very unhealthy. And one type of fat that I want to talk about is visceral body fat. That is, the fat that is in and around our organs. And a little bit is okay. A little bit can protect our organs. But when we have too much, it can affect the efficiency of those organs and it can be very, very unhealthy for us. And you know, sometimes it's not visible to the naked eye, but it's there, and the majority of individuals have some degree of visceral body fat. That's not healthy. Now, I'm not saying everybody has an unhealthy amount, but the majority of individuals actually probably do. And what happens with toxins? Many of them, most of them, get stored in our fat cells, get stored in and around our belly, in our belly fat. That's that visceral body fat that I'm referring to. That's that visceral body fat that I'm referring to.

Speaker 1:

And I don't know how many of you have heard of the term obesogens, but that's what's happening with obesogens. The obesogens are our chemicals that enter our body through these different pathways that I shared earlier through the food we eat, through the environment, and they get stored in our fat cells and they can create a concern for our health and they can also make it very, very challenging to release weight and, even more so, to release that visceral body fat. That can be very unhealthy. And so I want to share some examples of these obesogens, and many of them. Again, they are related to causing havoc in our bodies. They go into our fat cells and they hang out there, and for many people who may have that stubborn last five, 10, maybe 15 pounds of weight they want to release and they find it very, very challenging, this, my friends, is a big, big reason, if not the reason why. That is because of these toxins that are stored in our fat cells, making it extremely challenging to release those last few pounds.

Speaker 1:

Some examples of obesogens include bisphenol A, which is found in food and beverage packaging, and it's a chemical and it's present in about 95% of humans. Another one is polybrominated diphenyl ethers. These are flame retardants. Now, if you think about it, flame retardants where do we find those Furniture fabrics we're looking to? Personally, we're looking to put some new carpet upstairs. It's in carpet, right? So when you do get anything new like that, when it comes to furniture or something in your home, you want to be very aware of that fact, and if you can find an organic something like a couch or something that's made from organic materials I chuckle because I haven't yet found that If you know of it, let me know. But I also would say you want to take time to air your house out, or whatever room it is that's having something new installed or new furniture. Take the time to air that area out. It's really, really important.

Speaker 1:

We also have phthalates, which those are plastic agents that are found in cosmetics, medicine and paint. We have parabens, and those are preservatives that are found in food, paper product and medicines, and then, ultimately, we have pesticides, which are used in agriculture, and they are used on our food, our produce, our fruits and our vegetables, among other things. Right, so I say this because I want you all to be aware of what's happening in the environment and take steps in any way that you can to reduce this toxin load, to reduce the effects that it's having on your health, and there are various things that we can do, but again, something that I've done and I'm saying on a monthly basis is this nutritionally supported intermittent fast that helps these, that helps these toxins that are stored in our fat cells to be transferred in a way, in a way that they can be flushed out of the body, that they become fat, from fat soluble, they become water soluble and they basically basically get peed out of the body. And this is one technique that is very, very beneficial to removing some of these impurities. And there are various other things that we can do.

Speaker 1:

For sure, and you know, choosing, choosing foods that are organic, choosing foods that are pesticides are not as prevalent. So, for example, if you purchase produce from a local farmer's market, when you do that, you are purchasing food that's been, it's fresher. For starters, this is something I used to share with my students that you know, when you think about the, the nutrition, the nutritional level of certain foods that we eat, especially when we think of produce and fruit. The second, that piece of fruit let's say that apple is picked from that tree, it starts to lose its nutritional value. So if you think about an apple picked from a tree, put on a truck, shipped to who knows where before it actually gets out and put out in a store, we don't know how long it's been since it was picked from that tree, we don't know how long it's been in transport, and then how long it is before it actually gets put out in the market, before it's actually bought. So by the time we get these foods to our bodies, the nutritional level is so low, it's been so depleted.

Speaker 1:

I wanna encourage you, for not just to reduce toxin overload, but also for nutritional reasons, to purchase your produce locally, go to a local farmer's market so that you can have cleaner produce and also produce that has a higher level of nutrient value level of nutrient value. And then drinking lots of water, exercise, sweating, going in saunas can be beneficial for people. I mean, there are definitely things that we can do to help reduce this toxic burden that we all are faced with. We all are experiencing. Nobody is immune to it, but we can take steps to lessen the effects that it's having on our bodies and our overall health, and there is a lot of information out there, and there's a quote from a doctor who has spent decades of research on this very topic, and she even says that 95% of cancers can be traced back to our nutrition and environmental health, meaning those toxins that we've been exposed to.

Speaker 1:

So I just wanted to share a little bit about what I do, what's worked for me through the years and educate you all a little bit on these obesogens and toxins and how they're getting stored in our bodies, and just help you to have that awareness so that you can start to take steps for you and your family to be healthier. Because that's what it's all about. And, as always, I welcome you to reach out to me with questions. You know my contact information is in the show notes. Message me on Instagram, message me on Facebook and I will respond, and I'm happy to answer any questions and I'm happy to share with you what I have done, the protocols that I have followed through the years that have helped me.

Speaker 1:

And you know I always will say there is nothing, nothing perfect. There is not one perfect solution or scenario, but I have found something that has worked for me for many years and that I believe in, and it's it's something that I do to help to help with my personal health. And, yes, I've shared it with many people through the years and I'm happy to share it with any of you. So feel free to reach out, but you know, at the end of the day, there are all kinds of steps that we can take. We can be more aware of what products we are using in our home, what foods we are eating, you know what kind of water are we drinking. Just take some steps and start to be aware of some, some small steps that you can take, maybe some small healthy swaps that you can take that will help you and your family be healthier. And again, in my show notes I do have some links of some products that I have discovered that are non-toxic, that I really love, and I will continue to seek out and try new products and new companies. I always am looking for non-toxic ways to, to you know, enjoy our lives and be healthy at the same time, because there are there are products out there and there are options out there and there are a lot of good, good companies and products that are clean that you can start to introduce into your day-to-day routine that can really help make a difference in your overall health. So, again, I hope you have found this valuable. Take some time today and do something for you and your personal wellness and until next time, have a beautiful, blessed rest of your week.
