We all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today.

Speaker 1:

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Words of Wellness. If this is your first time here, I want to welcome you. I am your host, shelly Jeffries, and I am excited to be here and share with you all. I wanted to hop in today and share just a few thoughts I was having regarding wellness, just the completeness of our overall wellness and what are some things we can do to really focus in on different areas of our wellness and excel in them. And I was at an event yesterday and I had the privilege of getting to speak about toxins and our health and nutrition. And at the beginning we did an exercise that had to do with vision casting, really thinking about some areas of our lives that perhaps we want to improve upon and how would we feel once we made those improvements and how would it impact our overall lives. And it just got me thinking about wellness. I've spoken about wellness for many years and just the different dimensions of health and wellness, and many times when we think about wellness or health even we tend to kind of zero in and focus on the physical aspect, and so what I wanted to do today is give you kind of some food for thought, so to speak. I'm going to share some information with you and I really want you to take it to heart and take some time to think about these areas that I'm going to share with you, and I'm going to present some questions.

Speaker 1:

And I came across what is called the wheel of life. I actually have this vision board that I ordered a long time ago. That came with different cards that you could put inside the board and it came with a little booklet. And I just was coming across this because it really related to what we were sharing yesterday, and it relates to just our overall wellness and what are some things that we can do individually to improve upon different areas of our wellness. And I have always shared with students and clients that we all have areas that we are strong in. We have our strengths right, and then there might be some areas that we could improve upon. So I really am just going to share some information with you all. I'm going to present some questions that I would love for you to really think about, perhaps write them down and perhaps take some time to just sit on it and think on them and find some ways to maybe elevate some certain areas of your wellness and overall of your life. And so in this particular wheel of life it relates so much to the areas of wellness.

Speaker 1:

But I want to share with you these different areas. One category is family and friends, one is love and romance, one is self-care, one is personal growth and learning, one is recreation, one is physical environment, one is finances and the last one here is career and business. So I want you to take those different categories and kind of think on it for a moment and think okay, I'm feeling pretty good about my self-care, my personal growth and learning. Maybe I want to improve upon my finances, maybe I want to improve upon my career. What are some areas that maybe you are looking to improve upon? And what I want you to do is, in these different categories, I want you to give yourself a rating on a scale of 1 to 10. So 1 would be the least satisfied and 10 would be the most satisfied.

Speaker 1:

So again, when you're thinking about these different areas family and friends, love and romance, self-care, personal growth and learning, recreation, physical environment, finances, career and business on a scale from one to 10, what would you give yourself in each of those areas? And then, once you do that, I want you to think about these questions that I'm going to present to you. So we all have these areas. We've rated ourselves in these different categories and maybe there are some areas you would like to get better at right and improve in. We all have room for improvement and this isn't any way, shape or form, meant to be negative, because we all have very good areas and areas that we're strong in. There's always areas that we can improve in.

Speaker 1:

So what I want you to think about in these different categories, I want you to ask yourself a few questions. The first question what is the reason for your rating? So, whatever you gave yourself in each category, what was the reason for that rating? So, for me personally, let's go with self-care I would probably give myself an eight or a nine. Why would I do that? Because I'm very intentional with my self-care. I make a point to have some morning time, a morning routine. I take time to exercise, I take time to fuel my body with good nutrition. I do certain things that are going to help me with my overall self-care and I probably would not give myself a 10, because I guess I look at the 10 rating as being perfect and to me there's always room to be better, right. But I would probably give myself an eight or a nine in self-care. So what is the reason for your rating?

Speaker 1:

The next question what do you want to change? So for me personally, when it comes to this category, what do I want to change? I want to change my morning routine schedule just a little bit so that I'm getting my workout in earlier in the day. I have kind of gotten in a habit of doing my morning routine, doing some other things business-wise, and then my workout gets kind of pushed out a little bit, a little bit later than I would like it to be. I do it, I get it done, but it's a little bit later in the day than I would like. So that would be something I would change. Start to change my routine, maybe cut it, make it a little bit shorter or start it earlier so that I'm getting my workout done sooner. The next question what would be the ideal situation in this area? So for you, think about that what would be the ideal situation for you in this area? And then going back to my example, for me personally would probably be, again, condensing my self-care time just a little bit so that I'm getting it completed earlier in the day, so that, again, I get my exercise completed earlier in the day.

Speaker 1:

The next question are your beliefs about this supporting you or holding you back? Are your beliefs about this supporting you or holding you back? Thinking that my beliefs could potentially be holding me back, because what I sometimes do is I get a little frustrated or I get a little bit down on myself and go oh, I was hoping I was going to get my workout in by this time and now it's two hours later or whatever it might be. So we get in this cycle of thinking that can actually be holding us back. So what are your beliefs about this, and are they supporting you or are they holding you back?

Speaker 1:

And I want you to go through all of these categories. Take your time, sit with it, go with each category and ask yourself these questions and I'll repeat them again what is the reason for your rating, your one to 10, whatever it is? What is the reason for it? What do you want to change? What would be the ideal situation in this area, and are your beliefs about this supporting you or holding you back? And I want you to go through each category and really ask yourself these questions and really sit with it and come up, you know, take some time, maybe journal it out, write it out and once you've done that, here is what I want to challenge you with.

Speaker 1:

When you come up with some of your limiting beliefs whatever it might be that you're telling yourself that could be holding you back, right, whatever that looks like for you, I want you to write out that limiting belief and I want you to write out proof that that belief is not true. So let's again go back to my example. If I'm getting frustrated and go oh gosh, now again I'm getting out, and it's midday, and I'm getting out and running, and it's midday again, well, the proof that this belief is not true, that I can actually change it, is that there were many years where I got up and got my workout in first thing, and sometimes I got up and went for a run at six o'clock in the morning. That's not what I want to do at this stage of my life, but the point of it is saying I know that the belief, or the limiting belief that I might be telling myself is not true. I have proof that I've done it various ways through the years, so I know that I can accomplish what I want to accomplish, and then you're going to come up with an empowering thought to replace it. So, whatever your limiting belief is, find proof that you know that that belief is not true and then you're going to write out an empowering thought to replace it. It's going to help you replace that limiting belief and you know, we all have things that we tell ourselves that are not true. Right, we all do it and sometimes, many times, we don't even realize we're doing it. So if you can become more aware of how you're speaking to yourself and again write out these limiting beliefs, write out proof that they aren't true, and then write out an empowering thought that you're going to replace it with, so when that negative thought or that limiting belief starts to creep in, you can right away replace it with an empowering thought.

Speaker 1:

And I wanted to share this because I just feel like this is an exercise that I feel like we could do on a regular basis that could really, really be beneficial for us in our lives and in all areas of our lives. Come up with some goals and set some goals for yourself that will help you expand and improve in these different areas of your life. And I just I came across this and I just thought it was really helpful and I hope you find value in it as well. I just wanted to share it with you all and hope that you can apply it to your own personal life and gain some benefit from doing this exercise yourself. Because ultimately and what happens when we discover these limiting beliefs and we replace them with empowering thoughts, then it leads us to okay, what are my goals? Where do I want to be in? I don't know. Five weeks from now, five months from now, a year from now, three years from now, five years from now now.

Speaker 1:

And doing this exercise, I believe, can help us in that process, can help us reach our goals and help us to grow and improve and just better ourselves every day. And I will always like I say, I will always say there's always room for improvement in all aspects of our lives. So I really hope that you find value with this and, if you want to take it a step further and write out some of your goals, take time to write out specific goals, and then why do you want to reach that goal and how do you plan on getting there? Now this might sound a little bit more than you wanna, a little bit more than you wanna accomplish right now, but I'm just giving you a little extra section that you can pursue if you decide to do so. But, ultimately, my whole purpose in sharing this with all of you today is just to get you thinking, get you thinking about different categories of your lives that you might want to improve upon.

Speaker 1:

And, like I mentioned these categories I shared with you today, they all relate to our wellness and, even though they might not be part of the wellness wheel, I mean. I mean, you know, in our wellness wheel we have physical health, emotional health, social health, environmental health, spiritual health, and I add financial health in there as well. And so this, this, this wheel that I shared with you today, fits right in with our wellness. It fits right in, and so I just wanted to share it with you in hopes that it might be beneficial to you in just improving those different areas, thinking about ways you're speaking to yourself, how can you flip it so you are always giving yourself empowering thoughts, and then, if you want to take it a step further.

Speaker 1:

Think about specific goals that you want to reach, and I think right now is really a great time to be thinking about this, because we are already now in August. We are into the second half of the year, so at the point that you are listening to this, it might be later in the year, but, as I record, we are in early stages of August and we are in the last half of 2024, which is crazy, right, it's gone so fast. But I think it's a great time to reevaluate and think about these areas and reevaluate our goals, and maybe you haven't taken the time to do that, and that's okay. But just know, if you take some time to think about some goals and where you see yourself or would like to see yourself in by the end of the year, this is a great time to do it and you have a much higher chance. I think it's like a 60 to 80% higher chance of reaching your goals when you write them out, and you need to be really specific when you write them out as well. So, again, writing out your goals, why do you want them and how do you plan to get there.

Speaker 1:

So take some time with this everyone. I hope you find some value. This was just something I wanted to share with you to get you thinking about again just your overall complete wellness, the categories of wellness, how we can all go about improving and just bettering ourselves and our health and our overall wellness which, just again, just you know that just carries into our day-to-day lives and our overall energy and happiness and vitality and longevity, right. So, sharing this with you today, thank you, as always, for tuning in and do something for yourself on this day, for your wellness, and, as always, have a blessed week and I will see you next time.
