Speaker 1:

I have a few thoughts I thought I would share with everyone today. I had quite an experience these last few weeks and it just kind of reminded me of the circle of life basically, and I know I've shared a little bit on some podcast episodes where I've been a guest, when I've been asked about my journey in the health and wellness field, journey in the health and wellness field and I wanted to just share a little bit about where it started and how I have gotten to where I am today. And I'm going to keep it brief, I promise. But the reason it's fresh on my mind and my heart is that I was just up in the area recently where all of this began for me personally. And when I say that, it's because when I was a teenager, in junior high. That is where my love of fitness began, and it was because of my PE class and my PE teacher and that is where I started to get involved with working out. That is when I started to have a love of running and I have been a runner ever since. So we're talking many, many years ago that this all started. And I bring this up because it's so wild to think back and be able to connect the dots to where I was then, to where I am today. And I know, with age, of course, comes wisdom and we can look back at stages of our lives and realize why we were doing what we were doing, the purpose behind some of those moments where maybe we didn't understand what was going on.

Speaker 1:

And, to be honest, my mom moved my sister and I up to the Central Coast when I was 10. And at that time I was not thrilled at all. I was probably a little bit mad at my mom for taking me out of my school, away from my neighborhood, away from friends, right. And you know we moved in the middle of the year. Well, it wasn't the middle of the year, but it was in the middle of the school year. So we moved over winter break. So when I first started at my new elementary school, it was in January and I'll never forget walking up to the classroom and getting ready to walk in the classroom and all eyes on me the teacher introduced me and it was just such an awkward moment and, believe it or not, back then I was actually a shy young girl and so it was really uncomfortable for me and I just didn't enjoy it. It was just awkward. But as time went on I met many friends who are still my friends to this day and I can look back and just know there are so many wonderful moments, good and bad, but all part of the journey. And why am I sharing this when I talk about the circle of life?

Speaker 1:

Our youngest son, brayden, is getting ready to go to college to play baseball. And for those of you who might not be familiar with how the schedule goes, most of the time when you have someone going to a D1 school to play baseball, or any college for that matter, I'm not familiar with some of the other programs and their protocols, but usually you go away and play on a team in the summertime and we had found out that our son would be playing in a summer league up in San Luis Obispo, which is very close to our old stomping grounds. And the crazy thing is that when we received the email from his host family and they were just introducing themselves to us and sharing where they lived, where Brayden would spend a few weeks, their address was in Los Osos, which is the little town where my mom moved us up over 40 years ago, a little town where my love of fitness began, a little town where I grew up, a little town where I had my first jobs, where I worked in a gym for the first time, where I met my husband. I mean so much history up there and you know it's just been a really special time We've been up there. I've been up there over the years, but there was something uniquely special about this time having our youngest up there and him having an opportunity to kind of see where, you know, we started our lives and where we spent most of our growing up lives and just getting to experience a lot of the places where we used to go. And it was just really special. And another part of it was really fun was getting to go up there and actually stay in a couple of different places where we had never stayed and I had to be reminded by my husband. I'm like, why have we not stayed here? And he goes well, we were living here, you know. So we didn't have to go get, go find a hotel and stay anywhere different and it just was really neat and it was just a special time to have our Braden experience. Some of the places that we experienced and lived and I just thought I would share. The real big reason, too was just kind of talking about the fact that that is where my love of fitness began. And here I am today, decades later, having been a college professor working in the wellness field, in the fitness and nutrition industry for over 35 years and now having my podcast. So I'm just super grateful for where everything has taken me.

Speaker 1:

And I also want to share a message for you moms out there, because I've thought about this often through the years and I think that it's just a great reminder for us moms that, and dads too, that we make decisions. We make decisions for our families, for our children, the best decisions that we know at the time. And you know, when my mom first moved us up north, like I said, I was not happy. I was, you know, a 10-year-old young girl. I was a little girl not happy to be moving into a brand new area, not knowing anyone. But I can look back now and know that it was probably one of the best decisions that my mom could have done for myself and my sister, and so many blessings came from it. And so, if you're listening, mom, I just want to say thank you and I wanted to just give that message out to many of you moms just to give yourself grace, because we make decisions along the way that we hope and pray and feel will be the best for our children, the best for our families, and at the time maybe it won't make sense for our children, but later on, you know, they can look back and realize that it was the right thing. But later on you know they can look back and realize that it was the right thing.

Speaker 1:

And that's just my experience of what I'm sharing with you all today, experiences that we did and that you know it holds so much history and special moments, with my family meeting my husband and then now my, our youngest son, getting to experience it as well. So I just wanted to hop on and kind of share that with you all. It's been on my heart and just again, it's just this crazy wild circle of life, isn't it Like? I think I just in a million years would have never, never thought that our son would be living in Los Osos for a few weeks. I mean, when I saw the address on the email message, I think my jaw about hit the floor. I mean I just would have never thought in a million years that would happen. And so it's. It was just a a really, really neat blessing and I just thought I'd hop on here and share. And again, you know, that's that's where everything started for me, and we actually drove by my old junior high when we were up there recently and drove by the famous track that I used to get up and run to before school and run around and then run back home and just so crazy to think back. It's wild because it doesn't seem like it was that long ago and it's pretty cool to have the memories though.

Speaker 1:

So I wanted to hop in and just kind of share that message, share a little bit of my personal story, my personal journey, and I just hope you all are doing something for yourself on this day, doing something for your own personal wellness, and I just want to just give a shout out to all of my listeners and I also want to just I just want to say thank you and how much I appreciate all of you, and please feel free to reach out you know, message me anytime.
