We all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives, full of energy, happiness and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today.
Speaker 1:Hello everyone, and welcome back to Words of Wellness. I wanted to jump in today and share a few thoughts with you, as we are in the season of summer just around the corner. It's so hard to believe that we are already in the month of June. Summer vacations are being planned, graduations have happened, kids are getting out of school for the summer. Lots of things going on, lots of activities, lots of celebrations, which made me start to think about some of the things that I want to share with you today for really kind of basic tips to help us stay on track with our wellness, even during times where our schedule might be shifted a little bit. We might go on vacation, we just might not have the ordinary schedule that we normally do, and if I could recommend anything, I would recommend trying to stay on track with your routine, with your schedule the best that you can. And obviously, no, there will be fluctuations, obviously. No, it's not going to be perfect, but it can help your frame of mind, your mental health, your physical health. So much to be able to just stay on track the best that you can and follow your wellness routine the best that you can, even during summer months, even during family vacations, even during when the kids are home all of the things that might happen that are kind of out in the ordinary, which is how summertime many times goes right.
Speaker 1:The schedule is quite different for many of us. So I wanted to share four tips to help you stay on track with your wellness and health routine during these summer months. And these are very, very basic tips, but I just wanted to be a reminder of just some basic things to continue to do, knowing full well it's not going to be 100% of the time and it's not going to be perfect, but if you can, the majority of the time, follow this, it will really help you to feel good, to have energy and to help you to stay on track with your routine when it comes to your overall health and wellness. So number one would be to exercise Continue your exercise routine the best that you can. And I know schedules fluctuate, I know they change during this time of year and also we have vacations that we go on, many of us. So if you can find a way to keep that exercise or some form of exercise going even when you go on vacation I can just speak from experience. It helps so much to and it's maybe a little bit easier for me to share this and it's maybe easier said than done because exercise has been a part of my life for so many years, for decades now, so it's really a part of my regular routine and so it's part, it's a habit, right, once we get into something and we do it regularly for a long period of time, it becomes a habit. So, when it comes to the exercise, if you can just spend a few minutes going for a long period of time, it becomes a habit. So, when it comes to the exercise, if you can just spend a few minutes going for a walk or maybe going for a hike with your family or whatever that looks like, I promise you will feel so much better if you can move your body. And again, it doesn't have to be every single day, especially when you're on vacation. We want to have time to rest and relax. That's what it's all about. But having some form of exercise throughout the time that you are away just really helps your body and your mind just feel better and it helps you with more energy. So I want to just remind you to really make a point to get some exercise in even when you are away.
Speaker 1:The second tip is to make sure you are being aware of your nutrition, and I am in no way shape or form recommending that you restrict yourself. I want everyone to enjoy themselves. I mean, that is something that I'm a huge proponent of always. So if we can make healthy choices 80% of the time and then that frees up that 20% of the time where we can enjoy ourselves, whatever, maybe that might be our favorite meal One of my favorite meals is Mexican food. So going out and enjoying yourself, maybe enjoying a glass of wine, whatever it is for you, or maybe it's a dessert. I'm not such a sweet tooth person, but I do have certain foods that I definitely, really, really enjoy. So I would recommend just keeping track of what you're consuming and not like keeping track and riding it, but being aware of it and making healthy choices most of the time so that the remainder of the time you can enjoy yourself.
Speaker 1:I know something that has worked really, really well for me through the years has been I always take my nutrition, my protein shakes, my energy bars. I take everything with me when I travel all of the time. I have been doing this for years and I can't tell you how much that has helped me stay on track with my nutrition, but also helped me to feel good when I'm away. It helps with my energy and it also saves me money, quite frankly, because I don't have to spend it on expensive breakfast in like an airport or when we travel. But that has really helped me. So if you follow a nutrition program, think of ways that you can continue that to some degree, even when you're away from home. So nutrition is huge, making healthy choices, even when you go out to eat. But again, I say that. But I also encourage everyone to enjoy going out, enjoy those meals out, enjoy what you're going to eat and restaurants you want to go to and all of those things. I'm just suggesting the majority of the time, make healthier choices so that you have that wiggle room where you can enjoy yourself and not feel guilty, right, we don't want to have any guilt. That's not what this is meant to be. It's just meant to make some healthier choices most of the time, so we can enjoy those other moments.
Speaker 1:The third tip I want to share is making sure you drink plenty of water Now, especially when we travel. You know, traveling we are more prone to getting dehydrated, whether we're on a road trip or we are in an airplane. We just get out of our normal routine. So I know for me what I always do, especially if I'm in an airport I always make sure to grab a bottle of water before jumping on an airplane, just so that I can keep those fluids in my system, because it's really easy to get dehydrated when you travel. So, if you can keep in mind, keep that water going into your system. The general recommendation just always is to consume about half your body weight in ounces. So, whatever that is for you, kind of think about that, see if you can stay on track with that, even when you are away from home, even when you're traveling and, believe me, I know it can be a little bit more challenging when you are traveling but again, do your best. These are just recommendations to remind us all of things to do to help us stay on track so we don't get completely off our health journey. And it's also about feeling good. Right, I want everyone to feel good. I want everyone to have energy. I want you to be able to have a great time, whatever it is you're experiencing and you know, feel good and not have any guilt associated with all of it.
Speaker 1:I share a story sometimes with people. Years ago, I had a friend of mine who had started on her nutrition and her health journey and I was checking in with her. It was on a Monday and I'll never forget. I was talking to her and she was feeling guilty. She says I went away for the weekend. I went wine tasting with my girlfriends and she was feeling bad, like she was almost regretting it, and I said did you have fun? And she said yes, and I said then that's awesome, enjoy that. A weekend is not going to throw you off track. We are meant to enjoy ourselves and enjoy our lives. And it just. It makes me sad and feel bad when people beat themselves up after the fact. No, if you are enjoying yourself, that's what it's all about. That's what it's all about you can always get back on track the following day, that Monday, the following week, whatever it is.
Speaker 1:But getting back on track is a lot easier when you kind of stay somewhat on track with some of these recommendations. So again, exercise, getting some movement in with your body, nutrition, making healthiest choices you can, even when you're away from home, but still enjoying yourself, drinking plenty of water. Keep those fluids going because you know if you're away or maybe you're having a little more those fluids going because you know if you're away, or maybe you're having a little more alcohol than normal or drinking a lot more coffee and out of that routine, again, you want to still make sure you are getting plenty of water throughout the day. And then the last tip I will just recommend is still getting your sleep, getting enough sleep. And again, many of these tips are pretty basic, of course, right, but I think it can never hurt us to be reminded of these little simple things that we can do, even when we are away from home, even when we're out of our routine, and we're at home even when we are on vacation. Take these tips to heart and just be aware, do the best that you can, and I want everyone to feel good and enjoy themselves and enjoy their lives, no matter what they are doing.
Speaker 1:But, like I said, as we get into our summer months, the routines often change. Vacations are happening and there's a lot of different celebrations happening right. There's retirement parties, there are graduation parties, father's Day is around the corner now we just had Mother's Day and again, you know, ultimately I want to say allow yourself, let yourself, enjoy the moments. Let yourself enjoy the moments. Like I mentioned, it breaks my heart when someone will beat themselves up for, kind of, getting off track of their exercise routine or getting off track with their nutrition, or maybe they had a couple nights out where they just didn't do their normal routine and they're regretting it. No, if you have fun, that's what it's all about. But that's why I want to remind all of you about these areas to stay consistent with the best that you can, because then you can enjoy yourself, because then it's a lot easier getting back on track when that time comes, if you're gone for a weekend or a vacation for a week, whatever it might be. But I want you to ultimately enjoy the moments.
Speaker 1:We just had our youngest son graduate from high school and I am still processing all of it. He's our third and our youngest baby, and it is always so cliche about how fast the time goes, but it is so extremely true and we just had an incredible few weeks. I know I've kind of shared that a little bit, but his high school baseball team just did an incredible job of making it to their final championship game and winning, and so for me personally, I was just all in. I knew I wanted to be present for all of the moments and just take them all in, because they go so fast. And you know, we were blessed to have all of our kids home for my son's graduation, so we had some really special family time and family moments. And so I share this because, again, because of what I do most of the time and most days, it allows me to enjoy those moments and not feel guilty for going out and having a special meal or having a glass of wine or two and those kind of things right. So that's just my message for today.
Speaker 1:With summer just about here and everything that goes along with that, my main message is I want to encourage you all to stay on track the best that you can with your health, with your wellness, stay in your routine the best you can and then let yourself enjoy the moments outside of that routine.
Speaker 1:Outside of that routine, life is meant to be enjoyed, my friends, and I hope you find some value in these tips Like I said, pretty basic I know, but I think they bear reminding so that we can keep moving forward and keep feeling our best, so that we can enjoy life's moments to the best.
Speaker 1:So, with that being said, I hope that you do something for your wellness on this day and, until next time, make it a great day, have a blessed week and I will see you next time.
